The Attribute of God: LIFE

In this profound exploration, we embark on a spiritual journey delving into the manifold attributes of God as unveiled in the New Testament. Attributes, transcending mere virtues, encompass the entirety of what constitutes God. When these divine attributes become our personal experience, they manifest as virtues within us. Thus, the term "attributes" is employed in the context of God, while "virtues" is aptly used concerning ourselves, the embodiment of Christ.

LIFE, the primal and foundational attribute of God, serves as our starting point. While "life" abounds in the New Testament, the explicit phrase "the life of God" is singularly articulated. Ephesians 4:18 says “Being darkened in their understanding, estranged from the life of God because of the ignorance which is in them, because of the hardness of their heart.

This life is not a created entity; it is eternal and uncreated, existing independently of time. Unlike human life, which was granted at creation, the life of God transcends the temporal and is offered to humanity at the Tree of Life. However, man fell into the vanity of his mind and became darkened in his understanding. In such a fallen condition man is not able to touch the life of God until he repents (has his mind turned to God) and believes in the Lord Jesus to receive God’s eternal life (Acts 11:18; John 3:16).

In the cosmic tapestry, only God's life qualifies as true life. As stated in 1 John 5:12, “He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.” emphasizing that unless we have the life of God we do not have life. In the sight of God, only His life is life. This unique life is characterized by its divinity and eternality. It is divine, reflecting the very nature of God, and eternal, devoid of origin or cessation. Immortal and unchangeable, God's life remains unaltered even in the face of adversity or destruction. Therefore, when the life of God is mentioned in the New Testament, it is treated as a unique life (John 1:4; 10:10; 11:25; 14:6).

The life of God is divine and eternal. The word “divine” means being of God, having the nature of God. The word “eternal” means being uncreated, without beginning or ending, existing by itself, and ever, unchangeably existing. The life of God is uncreated, without beginning or ending, self-existing, ever-existing, and never changing.

God's original intent in creating humanity was for them to partake of the Tree of Life, thereby receiving His eternal life. Yet, the intrusion of Satan's malevolence during the fall necessitated the barring of humanity from this life. The cherubim, flame, and sword guarding the tree symbolize God's glory, holiness, and righteousness. However, through the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus on the cross, the barriers were dismantled. Consequently, believers are granted bold access to the Holy of Holies, where the Tree of Life is situated. The divine life, once estranged from humanity, becomes an ongoing source of nourishment and joy for those in Christ. Conversely, unbelievers remain distanced from the life of God, awaiting the transformative power of redemption.

Therefore, I urge you all to actively engage in the experience of consuming the enriching fruit of life daily by establishing a profound connection with God within your spirit. Cultivate a meaningful relationship by immersing yourself in divine fellowship, allowing spiritual nourishment to permeate every aspect of your being. In this communion, fix your gaze upon the majestic image of the Son of God, embracing the profound essence of His divine nature.

With a genuine and willing heart, position yourself to undergo a transformative process, eagerly prepared to align and adjust your innermost self to mirror the beauty of His character. Embrace the journey of calibration, allowing the radiant light of His love and wisdom to guide your thoughts, actions, and decisions. By conscientiously conforming to the magnificent example set by the Son of God, you open yourself to a life filled with purpose, growth, and the abundant blessings that emanate from this spiritual connection.

God bless you and Happy Sunday…
