Consecration: The Heart Being Open
The Bible is not just a collection of words; it is the very Word of God, filled with divine light. Yet, this light does not simply illuminate anyone who glances upon it. As revealed in 2 Corinthians 3:18, "But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory." The key to receiving God’s light lies in approaching Him with an unveiled face—a heart free from barriers and fully open to His presence. If a man comes before the Lord with veils of self, pride, or sins covering his face, no light will break through. The problem is never with the light, but with the individual’s willingness to be open.
The beauty of consecration lies in its ability to unveil the human heart to the glory and light of God.
Just as the sun radiates its light over the entire earth, but fails to reach someone hidden behind closed doors and windows, so too does the light of Scripture remain inaccessible to those who have locked the doors of their hearts. “The true tragedy is not the absence of light but the refusal to open oneself to its transformative power.” Physical light operates on this law, and so does spiritual light. No matter how bright the sun or how fervently a person desires to know God’s truth, if they are not open, the light cannot penetrate.
Consecration is not merely a ritual or a one-time act. It is the continuous, unreserved offering of the heart and spirit to God. To be open to God is to live in a state of constant surrender, an ongoing disposition of trust and humility. It requires laying aside personal agendas, pride, and reservations, making oneself a vessel ready to receive His divine truth. When one chooses to shut themselves off from God, the light of His Word cannot enter. “This closed state creates spiritual darkness—a condition where understanding is impossible.”
It is no small matter to struggle with the Bible and remain in ignorance of its depth. When one finds difficulty grasping its truths, it is a clear sign of spiritual darkness. The solution is not merely to study harder but to assess the openness of one’s heart. “The amount of light we receive from Scripture is directly proportional to how open we are to God.” Some receive only a flicker, others are engulfed in its brilliance, but the difference is not in the light itself — “it is in the heart of the one receiving.”
Openness to God, therefore, is not a fleeting emotion or temporary state. It is born from an unreserved and unconditional consecration, a profound and deliberate submission to His will. “Any area of resistance or self-justification is a barrier to divine revelation.” Darkness, in every form, stems from being closed off to God. “True enlightenment, then, is a product of total surrender.”
To live in the fullness of God’s light is to practice continuous openness, which flows from complete consecration.
In every moment, we must ask ourselves: Am I open to God? Without openness, there is no light, no understanding, and no transformation. “Consecration is the key that unlocks the heart, allowing the brilliance of God’s truth to illuminate our lives.” Let us live with unveiled faces, fully open, so that His light may shine through us in all its glory.
Spiritual blindness is born from our refusal to fully submit, to fully surrender, and to fully open our hearts before the Lord.
